Prineville

Prineville is a wonderful little western town known to many as the Cowboy Capital of Oregon. It’s located at the base of the Ochoco Mountains with the picturesque Crooked River running though it. When you arrive you’ll be greeted by friendly people who are more than happy to stop and chat or help with directions, something you won’t find in a big city!

The high desert weather makes for sunny days and cool nights.  Prineville’s rainfall is approximately 11 inches a year, much less than our neighbors west of the Cascades.  Our snowfall is about 9-14 inches yearly.

For those who wish to partake, Prineville is bursting with year round outdoor activities.  You’ll find golf courses, tall timber forests for hiking and camping, bike trails, numerous parks, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and horseback riding just to name a few.  If it’s downhill skiing or snowboarding you crave, Mount Bachelor is only a short 1.5 hours away.

Prineville has good fishing at their reservoirs too.  Prineville Reservoir has a healthy population of rainbow trout, crappie, and large and small mouth bass.  It’s also popular place for waterskiing and boating.  Every year people come from all around to vacation at the beautiful Prineville Reservoir or enjoy any number of events Prineville is known for, like the Crooked River Round-up, or Par-Mutual Horse races.

It has a rich history and a bright future with Facebook and Apple choosing Prineville as the place to be!  The addition of the Central Oregon Community College - Crook County Open Campus built last year Prineville residents are excited about things to come.
