One of Bend’s most unique neighborhoods, Mountain High boasts a variety of home sizes and styles on large lots surrounding a nine-hole golf course. The Mountain High neighborhood is one of the few gated communities on Bend’s southeast side and includes a community pool and newly refurbished tennis and pickleball courts. It’s all nestled in a planned community tucked into a rolling landscape dotted by soaring ponderosa pine that harkens back to Bend’s pioneer sawmill days.
The nine-hole golf course is a fun and easily walkable track that is known for its laid-back atmosphere and friendly clubhouse staff. Don’t be fooled though, the USGA-rated course is more than a pitch and putt, playing to just under 3,000 yards from the back tees.
Dubbed the Old Back Nine, the course has undergone a series of improvements over the past decade after a temporary closure that saw the course scaled back from its original 18 holes. (You can still see remnants of the old “front nine” on the south side of China Hat road.)
Golfers who make their home at Mountain High also enjoy quick access to the Lost Tracks Golf Club, located less than a mile away to the east and Bend Golf Club to the west, a private golf and country club that includes Bend’s original nine-hole golf course which was designed by the legendary golf architect H. Chandler Egan.
There’s more than just great golf around Mountain High. The neighborhood is close to biking and hiking trails, including the Horse Butte trail system. It’s also just a short drive to Sunriver and the Cascade Lakes region.
Thanks to its large lots and proximity to public lands, Mountain High is a refreshingly quiet neighborhood with no through-traffic. It’s not uncommon to hear the cry of a hawk, hoot of an owl or to be greeted by a family of deer on your front lawn in Mountain High.
The lack of traffic and Mountain High’s relative seclusion makes it one of the safest neighborhoods in Bend.
Families looking to relocate to Mountain High will have the opportunity to send their children to the soon to open Caldera High School, Bend’s state-of-the-art secondary school that opens in the fall of 2021. A new middle school is set to open next door within the next decade.
While it may feel far from the beaten path, it's just minutes to dining, shopping and entertainment in downtown Bend and the Old Mill District area. Grocery and retail shopping including a regional outlet mall are even closer, making errands less than a chore.
