Chris Van der Velde of Sisters won the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship held at Tetherow Golf Club Thursday. Van der Velde is director of instruction at Tetherow Golf Club and seems to have taken full advantage of playing on his “home court.” Congratulations go out to Chris!
Van der Velde shot 71-74-70 to beat out Brian Thornton from Meridian Valley Country Club by 4 strokes. Louie Runge, Chris Mitchell and Ryan Benzel round out the top five. Tetherow seems to be a fairly tough course according to most of the players. Bend and Central Oregon continues to attract people from all over the country because of it’s great golf courses.

Fred Funk won the 2008 Tradition Golf tournament at Crosswater Club in Sunriver. He shot -19. He was followed by Mike Goodes -16, Tom Watson -14, Jay Hass -14 and Scott Hoch -13. Saturday’s weather was a scorching 99 degrees but Sunday ended up cooler with a little thunder and lightning nearby but nothing dangerous. Mike Goodes tees off in the picture above.
