Tetherow Gold Club in Bend Oregon was named in the ”best of new course” award by Golf Digest. Tetherow placed third on the magazines’ list of “America’s Best New Public Courses of 2009.” The announcement will be published in the January 2010 issue of the magazine. Tetherow was also named “Best New Course of 2008″ by Golf Magazine. The course was finished in July 2008.
Tetherow hit the Bend Oregon real estate market at a bad time. There have been no homes sold through the Central Oregon Multiple Listing Service and only two lots in the last year. It looks like Tetherow is off to a slow start with this economy. In the long run I think it will be a good investment considering their award winning course.

Mike Reid won the 2009 Tradition on the first play off hole against John Cook. Reid and Cook both shot a -16. Bend has many great golf courses but the Crosswater Club is probably the best. Many people are buying homes in Bend because of the great golf and summer time golfing.

Greg Norman, winner of 89 worldwide titles, including two British Open titles in 1986 and 1993, has committed to play in this years Tradition Golf Tournament at Sunriver Resort’s Crosswater Club.
During the 1990s, Norman held the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for 331 consecutive weeks. He is a three-time team member on the International team in the President’s Cup (1998, 2000 and 2002) and will serve as Team Captain for the 2009 President’s Cup team which takes place this October.
The Tradition is one of five major championships on professional golf’s over-50 circuit. The 54 year old Norman is a 20-time winner on the PGA Tour and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Chris Van der Velde of Sisters won the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship held at Tetherow Golf Club Thursday. Van der Velde is director of instruction at Tetherow Golf Club and seems to have taken full advantage of playing on his “home court.” Congratulations go out to Chris!
Van der Velde shot 71-74-70 to beat out Brian Thornton from Meridian Valley Country Club by 4 strokes. Louie Runge, Chris Mitchell and Ryan Benzel round out the top five. Tetherow seems to be a fairly tough course according to most of the players. Bend and Central Oregon continues to attract people from all over the country because of it’s great golf courses.

Two hundred of the best golf club pros around the Pacific Northwest will participating in the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship at Bend Oregon’s new Tetherow Golf Club. The tournament runs through today. The lowest 5 golfers will advance to the 42nd national PGA Championship next June at the Twin Warriors Golf Cub in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.

Fred Funk won the 2008 Tradition Golf tournament at Crosswater Club in Sunriver. He shot -19. He was followed by Mike Goodes -16, Tom Watson -14, Jay Hass -14 and Scott Hoch -13. Saturday’s weather was a scorching 99 degrees but Sunday ended up cooler with a little thunder and lightning nearby but nothing dangerous. Mike Goodes tees off in the picture above.
It was another great tournament and emphasizes the importance of golf to the Bend Oregon real estate market and Central Oregon. There are several great homes available with golf course frontage in Central Oregon.
